"Liscarney House has been a Lifeline"

About: Sligo Leitrim Psychiatry of Later Life

(as a staff member posting for a patient/service user),

I was Coping on my own with Low mood, Loneliness before my Doctor asked Donna Community Mental Health Nurse to visit me at home, She did not judge me, she supported me and invited me to attend liscarney Day Hospital.

I did not want to attend day Hospital, I was not used to meeting people.

Day hospital staff very friendly sharon with the cup of tea, nobody judges me here.

I enjoy meeting people now, altough I am worried about when I have to stop attending day hospital. I wish I could attend more often.

Claire OT has been very helpful, calls to my home every week.

I did not know the service was here, it is helping me

Response from Kevin McLaughlin, Psychiatry of Later Life, Sligo Leitrim Mental Health Services

Thank you Freda for your feedback on your experiences with both the acute day hospital, Liscarney House and the community mental health nurse, whom you met initially. I am glad that you have found the service supportive and helpful at a time when you and your GP clearly felt you needed help. It is not unusual to have concerns about how you might cope when your time at Liscarney House ends and many others who have benefited have experienced the same feelings. One of the main aims of the planned day hospital programme is to build up your confidence and develop your own skills which will assist you to cope more ably at home. The acute day hospital works closely with the community mental health nurses and their support following your completion of the day hospital programme would be organized, if required. The community occupational therapy aims to further assist you in maximizing your skills and strengths whilst ensuring you are socially engaged more fully when back at home. Your GP and Public Health Nurse are both valuable resourses that can further assist you in the future. Thanks again for your comments and I wish you well in your continued recovery.
