"Improvements in Brain Tumour Surgery"

About: Beaumont Hospital / Neurosurgery

(as the patient),

Just a note to record an apparent improvement in service over the past 12 years or so.

I first got a brain tumour about 12 years ago, totally out of the blue. It required surgery in Beaumont Hospital. Thankfully it all went well and they kept an eye on me for the following 10 years. Then, again out of the blue, it came back. Same type of tumour, same size and in the same place in my head. I was again operated on, by the same surgeon, also in Beaumont.

Now, 18 months later, I can compare both events. Generally, in Beaumont, the experience seemed to run smoother this time. Also, for whatever reason, my recovery the second time seemed to be quicker. I don't know if this is because of new techniques, new drugs or just random luck. It could also just appear to me that the recovery is better as after the first brain surgery I never fully recovered to the level I had been prior to all surgery so the second time I had less far to fall and less far to recover to.

Anyway, it's more comforting to see an apparent improvement in service rather than the opposite, and who knows, next time I may just need to take a pill for it.
