"Each day I attend helps me"

About: Sligo Leitrim Psychiatry of Later Life

(as a staff member posting for a patient/service user),

I was first told about Liscarney House by my GP after I found my mental health was deteriorating, having broken my arm I began to feel extremely anxious.

I found the staff very helpful and kind.

They gave me the feeling of safety. their treatment towards me is very good.

I feel a bigger car park is needed in Liscarney House, very little Car Parking space.

Apart from that I can not find fault, each day I attend helps me and helps me reduce my anxiety. From the first morning I met all the staff with each in turn being very helpful.

I was given a homely feel, with cups of tea and meals they did everything for me. which I appreciate.

I enjoyed cooking with the O/T and gardening with the other service users.

I feel this is a great facility, it has given me a new interest in my housework

Response from Kevin McLaughlin, Psychiatry of Later Life, Sligo Leitrim Mental Health Services

Dear Mylop,

Thank you for writing about your experiences at Liscarney House Acute Day Hospital. Acute anxiety can be extremely disabling and I am glad that you feel the interventions and support you received have been helpful in rebuilding your confidence and helping you to manage the anxiety you experience more ably. The multidisciplinary team approach allows practitioners from different professional backgrounds (occupational health, nursing, social work, medicine) to provide the help that you need at the time when you feel most in need of it. Thank you for raising the issue about parking space which, as you know, is limited. The team co-ordinator has included this need within the business plan and hopefully the parking area will be extended to allow for further parking availability. Best wishes for your continued recovery.
