"A+E Dept Mayo General"

I have made a complaint to the HSE through Your Service Your Say. I want to make it clear that it is not a complaint about the staff, it is a complaint about the waiting times and the lack of respect and dignity afforded to vulnerable children and older people. I arrived at A+E mid Jan 2016 with a letter from my GP re. my young daughter, she had a fever and pain in her chest and a nasty cough, her GP had requested a chest x Ray. We spent 8 hours in A+E in a packed waiting room. We were brought into triage and were seen by a junior doctor during this time. At one stage we were told my little girls blood test results would be back in 1 hour, it was over 3 hours before we were given the results after being told several times it would be soon as we were next in line. My little girl wasn't offered any calpol or anything for the 8 hours that we were there. She was lethargic and crying for hours surrounded by people coughing and even vomiting. We were eventually admitted to the paediatric ward at 12. 30am. There were older people there the same length of time as us and it was a sad, depressing site. Worse still was the number of vulnerable older people on trolleys. The staff were trying their best but the lack of resources was apparent. The experience was so shocking that I felt it necessary to make a complaint. I dread the thought of ever having to return there.
