My midwives know they gave me a great start

“My waters broke, but after a long wait I had to be induced. The midwife that looked after me whilst I was in the birthing room was just brilliant. They were all really down to earth, fun, compassionate. I was in labour for about 8 hours, but Shaun wasn’t for coming out at all!

“They suggested we have a caesarean. The consultant came in and they took us in to theatre and explained everything. They were really thorough with us. They explained everything to Dan. And Shaun was born fit and healthy.

“They took all night with me one night, just helping me with breastfeeding. They literally spent all night at my bedside helping me to breastfeed properly. I would definitely have given up on breastfeeding if it wasn’t for the midwives, there’s no way I would have carried on if it wasn’t for their patience and help.

"As a new mum they helped me with everything"

“The maternity unit was full, and the fact that they took the time was amazing. The patience they had was impressive, they have all these new mums all learning to breastfeed at the same time but they take the same care and time with everybody.

“Afterwards the midwives in the community came and checked I was ok. As a new mum they helped me with everything, like bathing him and putting a nappy on him. – I never knew anything like that.

“I’m a big believer that if somebody does a good job then you should let them know about it. It doesn’t cost anything to say thanks and just let somebody know that they’re doing a brill job.”

When somebody gives you a pat on the back you remember it. I wanted our midwives to know that we couldn’t have done it without them.
