Every Interaction Counts with Rotherham NHS Trust

Helping busy staff turn patient stories into better services is what Patient Opinion is all about. Every Interaction Counts is a joint project between Rotherham NHS FT Hospital and Patient Opinion. It began with one particularly thoughtful, critical posting and the subsequent online response and conversation.

But we wanted to learn how to make great feedback like this really change practice. So working with the Trust we developed Every Interaction Counts.

The initial day was with more than 50 staff from across the Trust and used short theatre pieces written and performed by Dead Earnest Theatre who use forum theatre to create immediate impact and allow staff to experiment with different ways of behaving. (If you want to read some of what the actors said click here for the script and or here if you want to see a short video.)

Having a day is all very well but it's easy to forget all those insights in the busy hurly burly of the ward. So at the end of the day we asked everyone to write down a promise to themselves - something that they promised to do over the next few weeks.

One person wanted to give more positive praise and encouragement to colleagues, whilst another said she would actively seek positive interactions with patients and staff throughout the hospital.

Over the next few weeks we'll be using Patient Opinion to help staff at Rotherham keep their promises - and you can see what they are saying by clicking here
